The toy a preschool teacher invented 50 years ago. Still working.

A canister, a slot, and thirteen lids — and everything a pair of little hands figures out getting one through the other.

Grandma made it for her preschool students. Then her own kids. Then her grandkids and their cousins, who still play with the very same original.

Pre-orders only. Nothing ships until it has passed independent safety testing.

A child holding a jar lid against the slot in the top of the original orange canister, about to push it through.

Fifty years of little hands

  • 18 months to 4 years — supervised play
  • 13 lids in every set
  • Invented by a preschool teacher
  • Printed to order in the USA

One canister. Thirteen lids. That's the whole toy.

It looks almost too simple, and that's the point. A two-year-old has to turn the lid the right way, pinch it, line it up, and push. That quiet bit of concentration is the whole thing.

Grandma's Lids An orange ribbed canister with a white screw top. A slot runs across the top, and a blank white lid stands on edge in the slot, the way it goes through, with another lying beside it.

Push. Unscrew. Dump. Again.

Four moves, and a two-year-old will run the loop over and over without being asked to.

Push it through

Turn the lid flat, line it up with the slot, and push. Thirteen times, if they feel like it.

Unscrew the top

Twisting the top off is a completely different job for little hands than posting a lid through a slot.

Dump them out

The best part, honestly. Thirteen lids everywhere, and a look of pure satisfaction.

Do it again

Screwing the top back on takes the longest. Then it starts over — nothing to reset, nothing to charge, no batteries in it.

And straight back to the beginning. That's the toy.

The four moves, on the fifty-year-old original.

Tough PLA, and a stainless nozzle instead of brass.

Not all PLA is the same. The standard stuff is stiff and brittle — it snaps rather than bends. We print in a high-impact PLA instead, Bambu PLA Tough+, which the maker rates at roughly twice the impact strength of their standard PLA along the layer lines — the direction that matters when a toy hits the floor. It gives before it breaks. Thick walls, solid discs, and nothing thin enough to snap off.

We print through a stainless steel nozzle, not the brass one most printers come with. It costs a bit more and wears far better. That seemed like an easy call to make.

Every set is printed to order in the USA, one at a time, on our own machine. No batteries, no screen, no electronics, nothing to charge or replace.

Two promises, and both are simple.

Thirty days to change your mind.

If it doesn't earn its place on the floor, email us inside thirty days and we'll refund you. You don't have to ship it back — we'd rather you passed it on to a friend whose toddler might take to it.

If it breaks, we'll replace it.

For a full year. Take it away from your child, send us a photo, and we'll print you another one. The whole point of this toy is that the first one still works after fifty years — so if yours doesn't last, that's on us.

Fifty years of little hands.

Same toy. Same idea. Now you can have one too.

Pre-orders only. Nothing ships until it has passed independent safety testing.
